It may seem too early to be thinking about Christmas, but with only one pay day left before the December payrun is due, we want to advise employers about paying on a different dayday in December.
Advice given in the October Employer Bulletin issued by HMRC, is to record your normal paydate on the FPS (RTI Submission) in December.
If your usual day date is a non-working day e.g. 25th December you need to record 25th on your submission but you can pay your staff on any day either before or after.
This is really important because recording the actual paydate on your FPS will affect any employees who receive means tested benefits like universal credit, and it can result in over or underpayment of benefits.
I think we can all agree that the last thing any employer wants is to have their staff having financial issues over the festive period and January just because of a paydate error.
If you need any advice or clarity about this drop us a message at firstname.lastname@example.org – you don’t need to be a client of ours for information about this, we just want to help people get this right over Christmas.
