Not sure what I’m doing, but if it makes my daughter’s life through school better it has to have a benefit.
Like many other families, we had the covid pandemic, transitioning from small Junior schools to new large secondary school, being bullied, then medically your child deteriorates, isolating themselves from everyone, not having energy, on school days they would always seen unwell, nausia, feeling faint, anxious and there’s morem I know, you know too!
Every child is different and handles things in their own unique way.
So after our secondary school said they could not help her whilst she was absent from school, I need to find alternative help.
WOW! surely there is something they could do.
Whilst my daughter was absent from school, I kept her to her school timetable, so she was up to date with her work, to not be behind when she returns to school.
Once I thought she was ready, I put together a reduced timetable, which ran along side the schools timetable and all was agreed. This would be revewed end of term.
Unfortunatley she was ill, more, again and again, but we got medical advise, the school contacted me regards her lack of attendance and asked for medical proof.
Obviously I was, and had been seeking help from the start, so her medical record was available from my doctors, ten pages!
We then got our school results for the year 21-22, something just did not seem right, I contact the teachers with a concern about her grades, they were not good, I’m confused, obviously I need to know what has happened, as I kept her to her timetable, and every lesson not attended, her work was completed online.
Considering her Maths was average she’s in the top set why? because she is in science top set, her new class sets are all different to what her report card said.
I had even advised every teacher, explaining why she was absent, mental health issues and that if there was any concerns, to please contact me as I know she is capable of school work and need to keep her on track for when I get her back to a full timetable, that is if I can!
I was advised by my local education authority to ask the school for her school records, which details what the school has been educating my daughter, giving the school has 15 school days to respond, typicly the 15 days ment it went into the Summer holidays.
I should have a reply, guess what I have had no reply.
My dilema is I want her to attend school as all kids need to interact, even though it can be crap at times, we all know kids can be rather nasty and my girl is not loud at all, very intrevert and just wants to be left alone.
Friday on her way home, some older girls wanted a fight, now I know my daughter has had enough, as for her to say to the older girls, “come on then do it now, get it over with”, the girls laughed at her and said “go Kill yourself” and walked on.
Would you want your child unhappy all because these pathetic idiots, you would all say, NO!
So, I am deciding on trying to keep her in for the lessons that she needs help with and all the others we do at home together, but after her being there 2 days the impression she has given me is anything she learnt at school, she could of learnt at home, in peace and without all the pressure.
Not sure if you can keep a child part time at school and part at home, or do they have to leave the school.
I know if I remove my daughter from school, I am in total control of her education and also have to pay for all the exams she sits, although each county educational department has a fund, with the money going directly to the school.
But if I can keep her on the school list, the school pay for her exams, as well as we can use all their online resources and our learning journey will follow the main stream schools.
I work from home, so it seems to be the right thing at the moment, I cannot predict how she will be the end of this term, or next, but all I know is, if I can help make my daughter live happier then that’s a big bonus for us all!
So off now to write to my local education authority, and to contact our local schools inclusion department, asking for their advise and also to ask the school yet again for their teaching records.
Wish me luck from Sarah-Jayne x
